Hey there empire builders! If you regularly read my blog or my newsletter you may have noticed that I’ve been a little MIA lately (or maybe you haven’t noticed…in which case AWESOME!)
There was a time in my business-building journey where I would have been mortified that I let a month slip by with no newsletter or blog post. I would have beat myself up and stayed up until all hours of the morning to make sure that I “stayed on track”.
But I’m happy to say that I’m HEALED of the guilt associated with not keeping up to my own self-imposed standards. Ok – I’m probably not TOTALLY healed (I did feel bad about not being in touch sooner), but I don’t feel guilt.
For the last 7 years or so, I’ve been clocking 60 hour weeks on the regular. I’ve juggled jobs while building businesses, businesses while traveling and businesses whilst running other businesses. You get the picture…I’ve been BUSY.
I’ve been diligent, persistent and sometimes downright silly in my workaholic tendencies.
And I’m happy to say that it’s paid off. I love my life right now and I greet most mornings with a smile. I’ve built a multiple 6 figure company, traveled the world and maintained great friendships and a healthy marriage. I’ve managed to LIVE while working.
But one can only work so hard. In the last 4 months or so I’ve sort of sunk inwards. I’ve curled up to countless Netflix series, taken more than my fair share of long weekends in the wild wonderful wilderness and shirked many “adulting” responsibilities
I’ve put relaxation and restoration first (in *most* cases).
This change of pace has been a bit of a shock to my system. I’ve had to learn how to relax and take a weekend off with nothing more than puzzles and coloring books to keep me company. I’ve quit bringing my laptop on weekend getaways and I’ve gone days with letting my phone sit there dead…totally out of battery.
This whole experience has been re-training me to not work so damn hard!
If you’re reading this and you have a business, I have a feeling that you get where I’m coming from.
It’s summer and LIFE has likely been calling your name. You may have been less diligent in your marketing and your blog could likely use some new content. This ebb and flow of energy is totally normal in business and sometimes taking time for yourself is EXACTLY what you need to grow to your next level.
After all, during this entire process of working less and slowing down, I’ve maintained a steady flow of income with my consulting and my brick and mortar business is thriving (we just had our BEST month yet).
And if you’ve taken a big break and you fear that you’ll never be able to get back on track, CALM DOWN! Fall has a way of winding its roots around us and bringing us back to planning and action.
Speaking of planning and action, stay tuned for my late-summer announcement about my new strategy sessions designed to target the biggest of your business woes!
And please- drop me a note and let me know what you’re up to (business or otherwise). I love the intimate updates!!
